Tokyo Metropolitan government by dragonslayero Tokyo Metropolitan government by dragonslayero
Well, this one sure came out alot better than I at first had hoped for.
This photo is made up of several photos I shot while taking a morning walk in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan last weekend.
I had really hoped that the autumn colours had set in....but I was wrong.
Instead I ended up taking photo of the skyscrapers around the area.
This here is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building 1, the second tallest building in Tokyo.
I hate writing long historic texts about things like this so here is a link to the Wikipedia article on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building [link]

This photo was made up of a totla of three photos shot with my EOS 40D camera using the AEB program.
Photo have been merged using PSCS3 and tonemapped using the Photomatix PS-plugin.

Enjoy the view. If anyone wants to use this photo in their own work, please send me note.

Thanks.
It's an old favorite that has sort of turned into a trend I do with all tall buildings.
I miss that city too, even though it is a stressful place and you'll be able to see most of it withing 2 to 3 days.

The angle of this shot is perfect, and the grey sky is wonderful.

Oww, Tokyo? I'd love to visit Japan some day.

The photo was shot right at the foot of the building, the angle and location was just by chance... Just for the note: today it is exactly one year since I shot this... shot on the morning of Saturday the 6th. of November 2008...

You want to visit the place some day... I can't wait to go back! Start saving for it, a trip there is worth every penny...

I really likes the sky above with it's gloomy weather and the trees below with it's bright colors. You've captured it really well. Nicely done.

An early attempt at something new I assure you.
I would really like to redo this one, but with an 11 hour flight between me and the location it's not something I can do any given day.
Big thanks ofr the :+fav: and the interest though! :)

If it only was that easy. I would really like to live in Japan, but with all the obstacles of language, finances and work it seems that dream will remain a dream.

I'm European alright, not EU member but still homegrown Norwegian and European.

Exactly!
Noone is stopping you. Nothing wrong with liking Japan, but to get an obective view on the matter I am propably the wrong person to talk to. I would do almost anything to go back... and indeed I tend to do so next year!
Now I only have to save enough to actually afford it...

Like I have propably mentioned a million times before I feel this one came out alot better than I had first anticipated.
But it also struck me that weather pays a big matter for my photos and especially for HDR photos.
I'm very glad you like it, and I'll be sure to make more attempts this year!

The fact that makes this photo a bit different though is that the sky was just a plain cloudy overcast day.
But the wonders of HDR and tonemapping are tehre so why not use it? :D

Advantage of HDR :) thanks to this building is underlined by the sky which is a remarkable background but still focusing on the building :)

PS. I'm jealous of you stay in Japan ;)

I agree completely, though I have to say that HDR has a nasty way of making you oblivious to great motivs. The thought of maming the HDR is more in my mind than I would like to.
In this case I found the backlighting to be perfect.

I can understand that you might be jealous, I'm just REALLY want to go back!
Take your time, it just takes some time to save enough for it. Currently I'm on a 16 month saving plan to make enough for a 5 week trip in 2010.
Wish me luck! :D

Thanks for the interest though!

This could work very well in black and white.

Anyway, great photo and great building, it looks evil.

I agree, the angle and the general dark nature of the building has put me on that thought, though the slight yellowish tint in the structure made me keep the colours.

Its.... huge!

It's almost frightening like the main-villain's base from a cartoon show.... or instead does it reach to the heavens?

Hmmm, villains base... hmmmm
Well it is the local government! :P

And you are quite right, the buidling has been critisized for being very intimidating to look at.
Besides, it was built at the very end of the cold war and the architecture at that time had a certain bluntness to them.
